Future Plans for Vijaliwa Vingi

Our Current Fundraising Focus: Community Medical Clinic

Rendering showing the position of the proposed medical clinic close to the entrance to our propertyOur next major long-term goal is the construction of the first phase of our medical facility. This will be an on-going construction project, built in phases as funds are raised.

We have a revised target of $100,000 and hope to achieve this goal in this calendar year. It is our hope to successfully apply for matching funds from the Canadian government CIDA) for this much-needed facility, which will service the village and meet the emergency needs of some 30,000 people, as well as provide a proper educational venue for some of our outreach programs.

It is hoped that once the facility is operational, an exchange program for Canadian medical students might be formalized, with interns volunteering for up to one-year terms, working side-by-side with local doctors and students.

We have commissioned an architect in Tanzania to begin architectural drawings for the facility. Download initial project plan [pdf, 966 kb].

Other Plans

In addition to the Medical Clinic, in the near future we also hope to add these programs:

  1. the Educational Program: planned to begin after the completion of the Medical Facility. We hope this will include both a primary and secondary school, trade workshops and a library;
  2. the Graduates Program, in which the children of our residential and outreach programs return as leaders, caregivers, nurses, doctors and teachers in our on-going activities.

CanaDares and Vijaliwa Vingi have a long-term commitment to engage in Community Development at the foundational stage and grassroots level.
