"GOLFING in Africa": our 4th Annual Golf Fundraiser
Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 1:51PM What is this all about?
It is a fun-filled golf fundraiser for a local charity - The CanaDares Society For Children in Tanzania. This event is an opportunity to get together with friends, play golf, have dinner and support a worthy cause. There will be contests on the golf course, prizes, a putting contest, a raffle, silent auction and a yummy dinner. There may even be a few surprises!
Who is it for?
The CanaDares Society is a registered Canadian charity based on the Sunshine Coast. CanaDares raises funds to support an orphanage and outreach programme for vulnerable children in the village of Mlandizi, 65 km west of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on the east coast of Africa. The project director, Lynda Kearns, divides her year between Tanzania and Sechelt.
Over the past 8 years, the CanaDares Society has worked in partnership with Vijaliwa Vingi Society, a registered Tanzanian NGO, to build a safe home for a few of the millions of vulnerable African children orphaned and living in extreme poverty. Because of your support at our 2008, 2009 and 2010 golf fundraisers, we have built a girls’ dorm and saved sufficient 'seed' money to apply to the Canadian government (CIDA) for funding to build a medical clinic to service the orphanage and community. The clinic will be a health centre for our educational outreach programs, including the distribution of Antiretroviral Drugs (ARV) for victims of HIV/AIDS. This year’s fundraiser is necessary to replenish our operating fund budget for the orphanage. This includes food, medical care, shelter, education, clothing and supervision for 20 children from ages 6 to 19.
I want to attend this fundraiser: where do we go?
Make your way to the SUNSHINE COAST GOLF CLUB on Hwy 101 on the beautiful Sunshine Coast www.sunshinecoastgolf.com - a 20 to 30 minute drive from the Langdale ferry terminal. Off-coasters can take the 9:20 or 11:20 am ferry from Horseshoe Bay and if necessary, catch the 8:20 pm back from Langdale. Ferry reservations are recommended. There is ample motel and B&B accommodation available in the area should you wish to stay overnight.
What is the date?
Set aside Saturday, June 11, 2011, for a 1 pm start. Dinner at 6pm.
What is the cost? (Golf & Dinner $100, Dinner only $65)
Your time and $100 for 11 holes of golf and dinner, and you get back a $35 tax receipt from CanaDares. If you don’t want to golf, you can come just for dinner and fun for $65, and you get back a $35 tax receipt. The fun includes perfect weather, incomparable views from the deck, golf with friends on a magnificent course, great food and a chance to make a difference. Bring your cheque book as the silent auction will be awesome!
