Mission Statement of Vijaliwa Vingi
Vijaliwa Vingi - Society for the Healthy Development of Children in Difficult Circumstances
It is the intention of the Vijaliwa Vingi Society to develop, create and maintain, and to "provide a safe, healthy and loving home environment for children and youth whose families are unable to provide one for them."
The home that we intend to provide is meant to "supplement the efforts of the government and other NGO's (non-governmental organizations) in the provision of resources pertaining to the Safety, Education and Health for children coming from difficult circumstances."
The project is being jointly undertaken by the Vijaliwa Vingi Society (in Tanzania), and a registered Canadian charity, the CanaDares Society for Street Kids in Tanzania.
It is the sole mandate of the CanaDares Society to financially support the activities undertaken by Vijaliwa Vingi regarding the proposed home.
Other donors are now being sought since Vijaliwa Vingi Society was granted its registration as a local Tanzanian non-governmental organization on November 5th, 2003.
Understanding that the ultimate goal of social welfare is achieving "the best interest of the child", as a Society we must address first a comprehensive attempt at family reunification.
The long term program will address the unfortunate reality that all too often, the family of origin is simply unable to reunite with the child, given the cases of extreme poverty, family breakdown, and the decimation of the parental generation due to the AIDS pandemic in Tanzania and many other countries.
Developing a children's home that will expand in facilities and grow with the number of children admitted - in effect, the creation of community development - is a viable if only partial solution to the exponentially increasing problem of unsupervised children and youth on the streets of Tanzanian cities.
